1988 Porsche 962 takes the field at the 2018 Amelia Island Concours d’EleganceDesignated “HR7”, this is the last Holbert Racing Porsche 962, constructed with Chapman CO3 chassis to IMSA specifications for the 1988 season. HR7 was raced in the #14 Miller High Life livery by Derek Bell and Chip Robinson as well as used for testing development. After the passing of Al Holbert, HR7 was sold to Chapman Root. Root loaned HR7 to the Jim Busby Racing team for the 1989 24 Hours of Daytona, where the father and son team of Mario and Michael Andretti raced HR7, again in the Miller High Life livery with the number changed to 68. HR7 then returned to Root who raced it successfully at many historic venues. HR7 was subsequently sold to Larry Schumaker, who after a brief period of ownership, sold HR7 to the current owners before Porsche Rennsport III. Porsche Factory racing driver Patrick Long offered to drive HR7 that weekend and won the Weissach Race for 962s. See MoreSee Less

For this #TourThursday, we give you the 1958 Ferrari 335 Sport Scaglietti Spyder pictured here at the 2017 Pebble Beach Tour d’Elegance. The car was anxiously waiting at the front of the starting line ready to drive! Three Ferrari 335 Sport Spyders with V12, 4-liter engines were built in 1957—and then Luigi Chinetti persuaded Enzo Ferrari to build one more. This Spyder (chassis 0764) was completed by Scaglietti at the end of 1958. It was first presented at the New York Auto Show and was soon nicknamed the “Super Testa Rossa.” Alan Connell purchased the car and raced it at Road America, Watkins Glen, Daytona and Nassau in 1959 and 1960. Thereafter it was owned, driven and enjoyed by several different collectors, and in 1990 it was notably lent to Phil Hill to drive in the Mille Miglia Storica. The current owner acquired the Spyder in 2013. See MoreSee Less

"Vedette" is not a model name, but the French word to indicate a star🌟, i.e. the Delahaye 135 Chapron that was the "vedette" on the Delahaye or Chapron stand. This particular car is a Cabriolet Le Dandy. ⭐️🌟⭐️🌟

It is unfortunate contemporary auto manufacturers have such a limited color spectrum. The seemingly endless parade of Metallic Silvers (and variations on that theme), equaled in number by the shadowing specter of Black and invisible White give little wonder to the incidence of depression, anger management psychosis and road rage that dominates America’s highways in 2018 when correlated against the fanciful, creative, upbeat, euphoric color palette that delighted enthusiasts of a time long lost.

Was that the original colour? Looks great but somehow wrong for 1948.

Awesome color…great shot!

Beautiful

If there were any sci-fi movie you watched in the past, and wondered where in reality are those cars …..well today we can see them at the Concours at St. John in 2018!

I assume that’s a Pursang Bugatti 35B. (The originals have all died because of their dodgey roller-bearing crankshafts.) The Pursang restorations have solid bearing cranks, which enable them to still be raced with some degree of reliability.

Brilliant!
