In this Christmas Day blog post, I’ll share a sampling of concours-related holiday greetings delivered to my Facebook timeline over the past week. Included are cards from Amelia Island, Cincinnati, Hilton Head Island, Pebble Beach, Dayton, concours charities and automotive artists.
Upon careful consideration — and in the spirit of giving — I decided to create a Best of Class designation for “holiday cards received” and award it to the Keeneland Concours d’Elegance in Lexington, Ky. The card featured above was designed by David Brown, advertising and program director for the concours. David scored points by including along the holiday message — and in the spirit of advertising — the date for the upcoming 2019 show and mention of 16 years of financial support to the Kentucky Children’s Hospital. Well done!
Logo comes to life
The Keeneland Concours, which is held on the grounds adjacent to the the historic (and prestigious) Keeneland Racetrack, has a logo featuring a red silhouette of a bugler. The “model” for the logo is Bucky Sallee, official bugler at the track for 50 years… and more than 12,000 performances.
Here’s a video I made of Bucky playing his “Call to Post” to signal the start of the 2013 Keeneland Concours awards ceremony.
